Karunya Benevolent Fund, is a health scheme of Kerala government under Kochi Cancer Centre has been included to provide financial assistance of up to Rs. 2.0 lakh to the poor cancer patients across the state. The inclusion of Kerala’s Kochi Cancer Centre in Karunya Benevolent Fund scheme will benefit more patients from lower strata of the society.

Under Karunya Benevolent scheme, the government is providing financial assistance of up to Rs. 2.0 lakh for cure and medicine purposes. And at present, poor patients may be availing of treatment from private hospitals.
Dr P G Balagopal, medical superintendent of Kochi Cancer Centre said that inclusion of Kochi Cancer Centre under Karunya Benevolent Fund scheme, will increase the approach of poor patients in centres for treatment. The scheme will mainly benefit the daycare patients, who number around 450.
As New Indian Express, reported, the government have around 2000 patients in the OP section. And of total, 650 are new patients and over 1300 are follow-up patients. And a huge number of cancer patients from Thrissur and Alappuzha district also come to the Kochi Cancer Centre for treatment.

All government hospitals in the state, including Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Regional Cancer Centre(RCC), Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC), Kochi Medical College and Pariyaram Medical College, are included in the scheme.
