MHADA Lottery 2016 to Include 450 Flats Under CM Quota

MHADA New Lottery 2016: The upcoming lottery of MHADA for 2016 may include the 450 flats under Chief Minister quota. According to the source, the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) has requested the state government to sell flats under Chief Minister quota in MHADA upcoming lottery in May 2016. The source said that the flats under the quota have not been alloted since 2010.

The senior official of MHADA said that these plots are to be allotted since 2014. He also quoted that most of these apartments are in suburbs, including Ghatkopar, Dahisar, and Versova. Most of them were constructed before 2010 and remain vacant till now. Therefore, Mhada wants to add these flats in MHADA lottery May 2016.

After the Adarsh co-operative housing scam controversy, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan gave away his discretionary power of allotting flats to eminent personalities, actors, freedom fighters and journalists under the CM quota. This discretionary power, however, was misused and most flats were allotted to relatives of the politicians and those close to the power.

According to the statement of the source, 49 percent MHADA flats are for reserved category applicants, while 2 percent is reserved for the CM quota applicants.

The senior official of MHADA said that MHADA is planning to bring a large number of flats under Mhada lottery in May, so that maximum number of people can fulfill the dream of owning a house. Most Mhada flats are at available at an affordable rate.

Apart from the regular constructions of affordable houses, the authority has also decided to improve the construction of BDD chowls which are spread around the area of 96 acres. After this redevelopment, Mhada will able to get 13,000 additional flats, besides rehabilitating the local tenants.
