New Housing Projects Announced in Chennai

Chennai soon to witness new affordable housing project in Kadambur near Maraimalai Nagar as Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday unveiled new housing and urban infrastructure projects worth Rupees 1000 Crores. Most of the projects announced are to be built in Chennai only.

The housing projects announced by the CM includes 222 acre residential township hub at in Kadambur village of Maraimalai Nagar Municipality. The flats for all level of income groups including LIG, MIG and HIG will be built under the project. The integrated residential township with have all the basic facilities such as schools, hospitals, parks, sport complex, playgrounds, entertainment facilities and a fire station. The scheme will promote the planned urban development. The basic residential facilities such as water and electricity supply, sewer network and solid waste management will be given priority and developed with public purpose plots. The 58-acre lake in this area will be converted into a water source to act as new habitation source.

Reconstruction of 534 Slum Clearance Board flats at Nochikuppam and construction of 10000 multi-storey flats under slum free city scheme in Chennai and other cities are two other major housing projects announced.

The Slum Clearance Board flats at Nochikuppam which were constructed in 1972 will be reconstructed with and increased area of 400 square foot. Each flat will have a multi-purpose hall, a kitchen, a bedroom, a toilet and a balcony. Before the construction of these flats begin, an an approval to be sought from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and the Lighthouse Authority. The construction of buildings will also strictly adhere to the rules of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
