Haryana Government New Affordable Housing Policy: On Thursday, the government of Haryana has established a sub-committee of ministers to work on the new affordable housing policy. The policy will offers quality housing option at cheaper cost to lower and lower middle income groups in the state.

Currently, the government have Affordable Housing Policy 2013 which was established earlier. This policy offers housing options at the rate of Rs. 4,000 per square feet and if the new policy is implemented, the rates of houses will be as low as Rs. 2,000 per square feet. The source said that under new affordable housing policy, a person can buy a 2BHK house of about 500 square feet size at the cost of Rs. 10 lakh in the areas like Gurgaon.

The state government is planning to construct housing in semi-rural or urbanized villages for the same.

The source said that a third category “Nagar Panchayat” would be founded for the villages in Haryana with a population 10,000-30,000 and for those villages that do not want to come under the municipal committee/corporations/councils. The arrangement like sewerage, water, road and electricity will be managed by Nagar Panchayats. The government of Haryana has formed a sub-committee of minister and this sub-committee is in touch with various developers and agencies to implement the policy. In the meeting of CREDAI, one of the developers approached the government to offer a constructed houses at the rate of Rs. 1,520/- per square feet in Gurgaon.

Getambar Anand, the president of CREDAI compared the Haryana’s affordable Policy with UP’s housing policy. Anand said that the UP policy offers affordable housing in the outskirt of cities at the rate of Rs. 2,500/- to Rs. 3,000 per square feet. The housing policy of UP has also exempted the developers from external and internal development charges.
