Chennai Metro Rail to Build SkyScrapper for its HQ

According to the Chennai Metro Rail sources, the corporation is planning to build a multi-srotied skyscraper on a 10-acre plot of land in Nandanam for its headquarters. The building could be anywhere from 20 and 25 storeys.

The Chennai Metro Rail is waiting for some clearances from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the building construction.

According to a Metro Rail spokesman the project work has begun and is in the initial phase of the development with piling work for the headquarters in full sewing.

The CMRL has also issued tenders for incomplete seven stations Koyambedu, CMBT, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, Ekkatuthangal and Alandur on the elevated stretch.

Chennai Metro Rail terminated the contract of Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited (CCCL) for the delay in the completion of these stations. Now the CMRL is trying to complete the elevated stretch work between Koyambedu and St Thomas Mount can be thrown open to public this year. Close to 32 per cent of work on the tunneling section is complete, while the Koyambedu Depot will be getting two more trains by the end of March, 2014.

The tentative deadline for the completion of phase 1 of the project is the end of Financial year 2014-15.
