The master plan for 560 km long Chennai-Bangalore-Chitradurga Industrial Corridor (CBCIC) will be ready in next 8 months to one year, according to V P Baligar, CMD, Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.

Backed by Japanese government, the high land acquisition cost for the corridor development is the major challenge and hurdle that can affect the project, according to State’s senior bureaucrat, V.P. Baligar.

The final blueprint on the mega southern infrastructure project is being prepared by Consultants Nippon Koei and PWC. The mega infrastructure project which will run through 9 industrial hubs including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Banaglore, Kolar, Tumkur, and Chitradurga is expected to boost industrial activity and accelerate regional economic integration and development between the two state capitals or the country’s top two southern metros.

As part of the project, Bangalore will get a 65.54 kilometer long peripheral ring road in the northern hemisphere. Another ring road of approximately 204 kilometers will be constructed to further connect the satellite towns such as Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Anekal, Hoskote, Devanahalli, Doddaballapura, Nelamangala and Magadi.

The first phase of the Chennai-Bangalore-Chitradurga Industrial Corridor (CBCIC) constitutes of the Peninsular Regional Industrial Development Corridor to form an economic passage of manufacturing activity between Chennai and Mumbai. The Phase II of the project constitutes the Bangalore-Mumbai Economic Corridor for which consultants have been appointed to prepare a ‘perspective’ development plan.
