Andhra Pradesh government has allotted an amount of Rs. 1,450 crore to boost the construction of affordable houses under “Housing for All” scheme. To achieve the target of constructing 2.5 lakh houses in rural area and 1.1 lakh houses in urban area under the scheme, the government is planning to rope with top builder and developers.

The source informed that the identification of beneficiaries in urban area has been completed and the implementation work will be started soon.

Houses in the urban areas would be taken up in three modules. While group housing will be taken up for the landless poor, work will be taken up by an agency nominated by the government where the beneficiaries own small extent of house sites.

The source said that We are planning to complete the construction and hand over the keys to the owner in the next 8-10 months. Owning a decent house will definitely make the beneficiary happy and automatically they will extend support to the government.

The implementation process of the scheme will be done under NTR housing programme and all houses would have 2-bedroom.

Interestingly, the government earmarked 1,450 crore for the scheme despite knowing fully well that the housing department had spent only 42 per cent of the allotted funds in the current fiscal.

Under the scheme, the Centre will bear 50 per cent of the cost, the state government will take 30 per cent burden and the remaining 20 per cent will be met through banks, with zero burden on the beneficiary.
