With a total of 84 projects worth Rupees 6,315 crore on shocase, teh Partner Kerala meet 2014 has begun. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Mr. Vayalar Ravi, the meet will continue till 25th February evening.
A total of 3 corporations and 25 municipalities will participate in the meet. The meet is prompting private participation in the various projects. According to the sources, over 500 investors have already registered for the event.
Investors will discuss the project prospects with the concerned local authorities and the partnership agreement will only be signed after detailed discussions and the detailed project report (DPR) will be formed after finalization of the procedures.
According to the Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali, the participation of the private investors will ensure the timely completion of the projects and the maintenance thereafter. The tax relaxation for the investors who decides to invest is yet to be considered.
The Partner Kerela meet is being held with the primary goal of identifying, formulating and implementing the bankable urban infrastructure development projects in Kerala.
He later added that “These projects should be self-sustainable, and must strengthen the economic base of the urban local bodies while ensuring inclusive and equitable growth through large-scale employment and income generation.”
The meet will also help the cash-strapped local authorities in state to generate some revenue. According to the officials, the government will also take quick steps to ensure speedy clearance of projects as per the prescribed norms.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will address the meet and interact with the investors on the second day of the meet on Tuesday.
The registered investors will be given opportunities to invest in projects in 10 different sectors as follows
- Waste Management.
- Shopping Complex, Convention Centre and Multiplex Cinema Hall.
- Sewerage.
- Amusement Park.
- Flyovers, Bridges and Parking Lots.
- Markets.
- Bus Terminal.
- Comfort Station.
- Parks, Town Beautification & Street Lights.
- Hoardings.

Of the all projects being showcased at the meet Calicut Development Authority’s Palayam area development project to cost the highest amount of 865.60 Crores followed by the 750 Crores for Valiyangadi area reconstruction schemes by the same authority and then the 700 Crore for the development of Sakthan Nagar by the Thrissur Muncipality.
