Berhampur Master Development Plan Approved by Orissa Government

Berhampur Comprehensive Development Plan: On Wednesday 5th August 2015, Berhampur Development Authority has received approval letter from Urban Development Departments. The CDP (Comprehensive Development Plan) for Berhampur area has been approved by the Orissa Government.

The development plan area of Berhampur comprises Berhampur Municipal Corporation, two neighbouring towns, Chhatrapur and Gopalpur and 139 villages. This development area of Berhampur is known as Greater Berhampur is spread over 320 square meter.

The CDP of Greater Berhampur was prepared by an organization named as Town and Country Planning Organization (TCPO) which works under Union Ministry of Urban Development. After receiving approximately 407 suggestions and objections for CDP and incorporating them in the CDP has been approved by the authority.

Apart from these incorporations of suggestion and objections, some modifications were also made by the Director and town planning in the CDP, after that the approval has been to CDP by the government.

An official said that the last development plan for the Silk City was prepared in 1969 and the new development plan was prepared after exhaustive exercise.

He also added that the CDP is necessary for the development of any town and the CDP was prepared keeping in view the cities possible growth in the next two decades.

Due to the lack of comprehensive master plan the un-authorized colonies are mushrooming in the city in which inhabitants are facing problems in constructing houses. Due to the mushrooming of colonies city facing traffic congestion and shortage of drinking water. Not only the inhabitants but real estate developers are also facing difficulty in getting their plan approval from the development authority.
