Tamil Nadu Tops in List of States Obtaining Approval for PMAY Projects

Tamil Nadu state ranked first in the list of states in obtaining approval for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing projects from Union government’s CSMC (Central Sanctioning & Monitoring Committee. It was informed by Udumalai K Radhakrishnan, the state housing and urban development minister.

As per the information received from the source, about 2,46,268 housing units approved under PMAY and the total constructed worth of the project is Rs. 8660.06 crore. Tamil Nadu state government will construct about three lakh houses for urban poor under PMAY-U Housing for All scheme in FY 2017-18.

Besides providing the information, the minister also inspected the construction of 685 units of apartment houses at Peechankulam in Trichy developed by Tamil Nadu slum clearance board (TNSCB).

Radhakrishnan informed that the union minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that Tamil Nadu had become a pioneer in constructing houses for the people. He has also assured full cooperation to Vision 2023 to make Tamil Nadu a slum-free state.

He also informed about the assistance for beneficiaries under the scheme. In the form of four installments, the beneficiary will get an amount of Rs. 2.10 lakh.

These three lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Tamil Nadu will be constructed in 2017-18. The construction of the apartment houses in Peechankulam would be completed soon. As per the schedule, the construction would be completed in the period of 18 months.

These housing units will be constructed will be in three-floor apartments in five different designs and each units will be made available in the size of 396 sq ft area. The scheme will benefit 391 old beneficiaries and 280 new beneficiaries.
