Tamil Nadu New Housing Policy may Introduce to Build 1.87 lakh Houses

State government of Tamil Nadu has proposed a new housing policy through which a series of changes may be made in the last policy like reducing of construction cost and other relative changes. Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced that the government would formulate a housing and residential policy which would bring to down cost of construction and to ensure ensure adequate housing facilities for economically weaker sections.

Tamil Nadu New Housing Policy – Highlights

The new housing policy of Tamilnadu government will focus on:

  • Standard urbanisation,
  • Ensuring provision of all basic amenities,
  • Developing infrastructure,
  • Amending master plans
  • Development control rules
  • Fixing time frames for building approval

An announcement has also been made by the chief minister regarding to the construction of nearly 1.87 lakh houses under different schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The source informed that the new policy should focus on marginalised citizens residing in the informal settlements in the urban areas. And the new policy could create space for private players to involve in slum redevelopment, decreasing the role of the state. “This shift will only benefit the real estate lobby and private housing finance agencies.

“The housing programme should also address the concerns of the informal labour force, the livelihood concerns and factor it the social and cultural sensitivities”, the source said.
