Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Tamil Nadu, is an insurance scheme of state government providing benefits to general people in association with United India Insurance Company. Currently, the scheme providing benefits to about 1.57 crore families migrant workers and undocumented orphans through government as well as private hospitals. Under Chief Minster’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, about 321 medical procedure and medicare facilities are being offered.

Chief Minster’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme

The renewal of Chief Minster’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme was made on 10th January 2017 along with United India Insurance Company. In addition of coverage of congenital anomalies, the scheme will have over 1,100 treatment procedures. With the premium of Rs. 1,069 crores, the government renewed the contract for four-year terms.

Public Health and Preventive Medicine department is implementing the scheme in a proper way across the state. And the government is paying Rs. 699 on per family basis while earlier, the amount was Rs. 497.

CM Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme – Treatment Procedures Covered

Treatment and procedures under Tamil Nadu State Health Insurance Scheme are as follows:

  • Heart and Lung Transplants
  • Cochlear Implant
  • Bone Marrow Transport
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Bariatric Surgery

The coverage amount being offered under the scheme has been increased from Rs. 1,50,000/- to Rs. 2,00,000/- for surgical procedures. And in case of any critical illness, if the surgery or treatment procedure exceeds the insured limit, then government to pay for the entire treatment from its corpus fund.

It is the first attempt of Tamil Nadu state government towards providing a health insurance cover to migrant workers and orphans. The scheme was not benefiting this category from a long time due to the lack of lack of documentation, address and residence proof but after making with amendments and modification in State Health Insurance Scheme, the government has broadened the cover for those workers and their children who have no or less documents.
