Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Odisha Sanctioned 31 Projects for Affordable Houses

Odisha government has sanctioned the construction of additional 10,600 affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Odisha. These housing projects will be constructed in 31 PMAY housing projects in 28 municipal areas. The government has so far sanctioned 50,000 houses for urban poor in the first phase of the scheme.

As per the report, the government sanctioned these projects under different components of PMAY including, 26 projects under beneficiary-led individual house construction (BLC) schemes, 1 project under slum redevelopment scheme and 6 under affordable housing project.

G Mathivathanan, the secretary of Housing and Urban Development informed that 2,833 housing units will built under PMAY BLC scheme, 1,300 houses under PMAY Slum Redevelopment and remaining 6,462 houses will be constructed under affordable housing project.

The housing projects sanctioned by SLSMC will be sent to MHUPA (Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation) for the final approval.

Under BLC component, the cost of housing unit is Rs 3 lakh of which Government assistance is Rs 2 lakh including Central share of Rs 1.5 lakh for construction of 350 sq ft house. And remaining cost of house will be shared by the beneficiary himself/herself.

The officials informed that the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) has been asked to identify beneficiaries and verify their land records in mission mode. The beneficiaries will be asked to file affidavits relating to the land they claimed to have owned before issue of work order for house construction. This will be completed within a month.

The Centre has sanctioned 2,115 new houses under BLC component of PMAY – Urban for 8 cities and these projects will be developed at the cost of Rs 64 crore for the current financial year. Of total, Central share is Rs 32 crore which also has been approved. With this, total number of affordable houses sanctioned for the State was 48,845.

Besides, the state government has also start the task of distributing work orders to beneficiaries for the houses approved in the first phase. And the government will also provide special incentives to those beneficiaries who will complete the construction of house within four to six months.

Two projects involving Rs 185 crore have started at Subuddhipur and Gadakana area of the City where 2,662 housing units will be constructed. The State Government has also sanctioned a project to be constructed over an area of 37 acres at Madhusudanpali in Rourkela city.
