Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Nagpur to Provide 14926 Flats for Slums

Central government has taken a decision towards the development of 424 slums. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley will provide funds for constructing houses for 9 lakh people living in 424 slums.

In Union Budget 2017, the FM said that the government has proposed to build 1 crore houses for people by 2019. The allocation has been raised from Rs. 15,000 crore to Rs. 23,000/- for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Improvement Trust have already planned to provide housing for all which will further help in the boost of PMAY Housing Scheme.

The PM Awas Yojana will be implemented along with the scheme named as Basic Services For Urban Poor (BSUP) and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) schemes launched by UPA government.

According to the source, two projects are being implemented by NMC comprising 4926 flats. Apart from this, NIT Nagpur has also planned to develop 10,000 flats of which 6,000 units will be for (LIG) lower income group and left-out 4,000 will be reserved for (EWS) economic weaker section.

For the development of these housing projects, NIT has started the process to identify its own land. NIT also sought land from the district administration and urban land ceiling department, the official said.

Increase in allocation of funds for ministry of water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation will also help Nag River.
