Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for 25,000 Houses in Punjab

State government of Punjab has decided to provide 25,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. On Thursday, the Chief Secretary of Punjab, Sarvesh Kaushal informed that, the government has decided to construct around 25,000 houses for Economical Weaker Section and Lower Income Group of the society.

Under PM Awas Yojana, EWS house will be provided at the cost of Rs. 4 lakh while the LIG unit will be available at the cost of Rs. 6 lakh.

During the meeting, Mr Kaushal has directed Banks, financial organisation, housing construction department, and senior officers of PUDA to provide easy loan facility for these flats. A loan upto Rs. 6 lakh will be available at the interest rate of 6.5 % for EWS and LIG flats.

PUDA and Housing Construction Department already has land to construct these housing units under PM Awas Yojana. These housing units will be constructed in three storey building.

According to the source, the PUDA got the record of 41,000 applications for the scheme from 17 towns and only 12,000 will be selected in the first phase. According to the information of PUDA, for the construction of these flats, a tender will take around a time of 18 months.

In the first phase, applicants will have to pay around Rs. 10,000 for EWS house and 25,000 for LIG house.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary of Local Bodies, Satish Chandra, Secretary of Housing Department, Vishavjeet khanna and officers of finance organisation and Gramin Banks.
