PMAY Urban: 1 Lakh More Houses Sanctioned with Rs. 4,200 Crores

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) has sanctioned over 1,00,000 more houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban with the investment of Rs. 4,200 crores. As per the information, more than 1 lakh affordable houses have been completed under PMAY-Urban so far and more than 6 lakh are under construction.

PMAY scheme was launched by the government in June 2015 and since its approval, 18.75 lakh houses approved from for EWS (the economically weaker sections) in 2,151 cities and towns across the country.

Under the central government housing mission for urban areas, the area of houses would be 30 square meter which will include the basic facilities and infrastructure like water, sewerage, roads, power, telephone lines and social infrastructure such as community center, parks, playgrounds and livelihood centers.

To boost the implementation of the scheme and the approval of projects, the Centre has provided flexibility to States/UTs.

Houses built under the Housing Mission would either be registered in the name of women or jointly in the name of wife and husband.

In the latest round of sanctions, the government has approved over 1 lakh more houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban and below is the detail of approved houses.

  • Madhya Pradesh – 57131 Houses
  • Tamil Nadu – 24576 Houses
  • Manipur – 6231 Houses
  • Chhattisgarh – 4898 Houses
  • Gujarat – 4261 Houses
  • Assam – 2389 Houses
  • Kerala – 643 Houses
  • Jharkhand – 331 Houses
  • Daman & Diu – 77 Houses

In the list sanctioned houses, MP ranked at the first place with over 2.66 lakh sanctioned houses and with 2.52 lakh sanctioned houses, Tamil Nadu ranked second.

Number of Newly Sanctioned Houses: 100537
Allocation Budget: Rs. 4,200 Crores
