PM Awas Yojna: Housing Ministry Approved 2,28,204 Houses for Urban Poor

PM Awas Yojna: Five states will get 2,28,204 houses for urban poor. Yesterday, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry has approved the construction of 2,28,204 houses for urban poor in five states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan for which the Centre government will provide an assistance of Rs. 3,231 crore.

After detailed presentation of these states on the housing plan, HUPA Secretary and member of the inter-ministerial Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) Mr. Nandita Chatterjee has approved the plans and projects for respective states.

According to the statement of HUPA ministry, of total, 2,17,748 houses will construction under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) and Beneficiary led Construction for EWS Section and remaining are for Lower Income Groups. These are the components of PM Awas Yojna under which the central assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh will be provide to the beneficiaries.

Of total sanctioned projects, majority of houses will be constructed in Andhra Pradesh. According to the source, 1,93,147 houses has been sectioned for 37 cities of Andhra Pradesh followed by 15,580 for 4 cities of Gujarat, 10,290 for 10 cities of Telangana, 6,255 for 10 cities of Rajasthan and 2,932 for 5 cities of Tamil Nadu.

Following the past experience of implementation of housing projects, this time around the Ministry has ensured availability of land for all the proposed projects with respective state governments providing land as their share of Affordable Housing in Partnership.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), 2 crore houses are to be constructed for urban poor by the year 2022 under which the Centre will provide assistance in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.33 lakh depending upon the model followed.
