PM Awas Yojana: 1.09 Lakh Houses to be Constructed by MHADA in the State

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: The state government of Maharashtra is planning to construct 1.09 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at the worth of Rs. 100 crore. MHADA is being selected as a nodal agency for constructing these housing scheme and MHADA will play the role of handholding agency between the Centre and different municipal corporations and Zilla Parishads for implementing the PMAY.

Under the PM Awas Yojana, a proposal of subsidy up to Rs. 2.5 lakh for EWS (Economical Weaker Section) and first time buyer whose monthly income is not more than Rs. 25,000/- and is willing to buy a house of not more than 30 square meter or 322 square feet.

The officials of housing department quoted that the Centre has given its approval for granting funds of around Rs 100 crore and it will be soon transferred to the state government which will later transfer the funds to MHADA.

Around 76 proposal from municipal corporations and zilla parishads have been received by state government for funding the construction of houses under the scheme. These proposal are from districts including Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Nanded and Aurangabad. The subsidy Rs 2.5 lakh to each first-time homebuyers will be provided by the state and Centre. Of total subsidy, Rs. 1 lakh will be provided by Center and remaining Rs. 1.5 lakh will be borne by the state.

PM Awas Yojana is the scheme launched by Prime Minister with a target to provide houses to all across the nation. The scheme has four component for implementing the scheme including:

  • Slum rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers with participation of private developers using land as a resource.
  • Promotion of affordable housing for weaker section through credit linked subsidy.
  • Affordable housing in partnership with Public & Private sectors
  • Subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction or enhancement.
