Meghalaya Affordable Housing Scheme to be Launched Soon

An affordable housing scheme in Meghalaya will be started by the state government within this financial year. According to the statement of Minister of Housing, Zenith Sangma, the State government had made funds available for the scheme in the last financial year.

According to the source, the government initially plan to construct 10,000 houses in the state under the Meghalaya Affordable Housing Scheme. He stated that the government initially plans to build 10,000 houses in the State under the scheme by providing 25 per cent of the total cost of the house to the beneficiaries and also making provisions to provide government loans to the beneficiaries for the remaining 75 per cent.

He further informed that nuts and bolts would not be used in making houses under the scheme to make the house affordable.

The economical weaker section of the society will get the benefits of the scheme and the scheme will be implemented in both urban and rural areas of the state.

Under the scheme, the state government will also provide necessary funds to the beneficiaries for constructing the houses in their own land. The government might also consider the idea of constructing a cluster residential complex in Shillong, he added. The proposed scheme is expected to be free of all deficiencies ailing the rural housing scheme.
