The seven states will be filled with 80,000 housing units for Economical Weaker Section (EWS) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. According to the source, the central government will construct 80,000 housing units for EWS segment in 163 cities. The Centre has given its nod to the proposals which worth more than Rs. 4,000 crore.
According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, total central assistance of Rs 1,226 crore will be provide under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The central assistance will be provided at the rate of Rs. 1.50 lakh for each house. The overall cost of the project is estimated to Rs. 4,076 crore.

HUPA Secretary Nandita Chatterjee chairperson of inter-ministerial Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee, has approved the proposals of seven states. The proposal approved after a detailed discussions and full satisfaction of availability of land and the share of the states and the beneficiaries.
Out of total sanctioned houses, around 58,456 will be built under the ‘Beneficiary-Led Construction’ component. Under this component, assistance from the central and state government will be provided to the beneficiaries to build new houses on their own land.
Under ‘Affordable Housing in Partnership’ component, around 23,301 houses will be constructed for which the state governments will provide land while the Centre would extend assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh per beneficiary.
With the latest approval, the government has so far sanctioned a total of 5.07 lakh houses for EWS in 13 states, the total central assistance for the same amounting to Rs 7,519 crore.
The government has targeted to construction two crore houses for urban poor in 4,041 statutory urban local bodies in the country under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
