Gujarat Housing Board may launch a new affordable housing project in Chandkheda-Jundal area of Ahmedabad in coming few months. The state government’s nodal agency GHB will construct more than 5000 affordable houses in the township project for LIG, MIG and HIG categories.
With more than 5000 multi-storey apartments, this will be the largest housing project of Gujarat Housing Board in past 15 years. The township project will be developed on 1.5 Lakh square meter land which was recently acquired from the Narmada Nigam Ltd, according to the sources. The detailed project report for the township is being prepared and the project is likely to be launched in next few months.
The Gujarat Housing Board will provide all kinds of latest and modern amenities similar to ones offered in the private developer projects. The township will offer 1.5 to 4 BHK apartments for low income groups (LIG), middle income groups (MIG) and high income groups (HIG) of the society.
The housing board will engage the private developers for developing about 5000 flats in the first phase of the project. The apartments in the new township project in Jundal area will be built based on the Naranpura model.
The construction of about 25,000 affordable homes was started by Gujarat Housing Board after the assembly elections in 2012 as a part of the promise of Narendra Modi to build 50 Lakh new houses if elected to power again. These houses were to be built in some major cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot and few other smaller towns.
