DDA Plans to Construct 16,000 Houses Across Delhi

To fulfil the demand of housing across the national capital region, Delhi Development Authority is planning construct construct more than 16,000 houses in Delhi.

The step is good but will hardly reach the demand of housing in the capital. According to the information, the need of housing in Delhi will be around 24 lakh by 2021 and till date, DDA has been able to construct only 11.69 lakh dwelling units.

DDA sources said that the sites for the projects has been identified and the planning wing of the agency has been asked to chalk out the implementation of the project. However, the cot of these dwelling units is yet to be finalised.

According to the information, total 16,584 will be constructed across the capital. Of which, 5,000 houses will be for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category and 6,000 for High Income Group (HIG) category and remaining 5,000 houses will be for Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories.

The location of these flats will be Vasant Kunj, Preet Vihar, Dwarka, Rohini, Mandawali, Phazulpur, and Khichdipur. In order to attract bidders, the DDA is planning to waive off the five-year lock-in period imposed on the ownership of the flats.

In 2014 scheme of DDA, 25,000 flats were made available for the home seeker by DDA of which around 13,000 flats were surrendered by the successful allottees. And these surrendered houses has been added in the upcoming scheme of DDA for 2017, announced in November but not launched yet.

The registration money for these flats has been increased from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh for LIG and and Rs. 5 lakh for MIG houses.

DDA officials said that the entire project will come up as part of a thoroughly thought-out housing society at par with the Dwarka housing society. The officials have been asked to pursue the architects concerned. The project is still in its planning stage and no deadline has been set so far, source added.

According to the source, the respective chief engineers have been asked to prepare a detailed project report. Besides this, the officials have been asked to prepare initial project estimates and initiate the project immediately. Once the project reports have been submitted, we will seek permissions from various departments.
