DDA Flat Scheme 2014 Delayed by 6 Months

Delhi Development Authority has delayed the launch of its new flat scheme. The housing scheme of about 3000 flats which was to be announced in March 2014 has been delayed owing to the incomplete construction of the flats in General Elections 2014.

The scheme is to offer the flats at 30-40% cheaper rates compared to the normal private market. According to the officials of the DDA, the construction work on the incomplete flats will resume in May 2014 after the poll results are Out. The General elections 2014 are also in favor of the delaying of the scheme as per the officials.

This new scheme by DDA was the one to be launched after 4 years of launching the last scheme of 15000 flats in 2010. According to the Business Standard sources, the scheme is expected to offer 1000 to 3000 flats in Delhi mainly in the areas of Narela, Rohini and Dwarka. The winner of the flats will be announced through the lottery system.

DDA schemes always offer flats at cheaper rates and are able to attract much interest from the buyers because of the more security attached and negligible risk. The past DDA schemes have also generate a lot of interest from the NRI buyers from those living in America, South Africa and European countries.

On the occasion of the announcement, a senior official from DDA Said “There is huge interest among NRIs for buying DDA flats because of location, quality and price compared to other private developers,”.

Earlier, DDA used to launch the new flat schemes every 2-3 years but DDA now struggles with giving possession of the flats under their schemes. No acquirement of land in past 10 years by the agency is also on of the reasons why the schemes are not too frequent now. To overcome this problem, the land pooling policy has been introduced in 2021 master plan of Delhi. Under the new Land Pooling Policy, the land owners can pool their land for development by DDA. The development of at least 100 residential projects with estimated 14-16 lakh units across outer Delhi will take place under the pooling policy.
