Chandigarh residential belonging to the (EWS) economical weaker section and lower income group (LIG) will soon have a option to make their housing dream into reality. The development agency of capital, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has decided to launch an affordable housing scheme under the centre sponsored Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The availability of houses under PMAY will be on the basis of demand survey of PMAY which to be conducted soon. Application forms for demand survey will be available in the office of Chandigarh Housing Board and on the CHB official website. The count of houses will be decided after collecting response in the demand survey.
Chandigarh housing board has been selected as the nodal agency for the implementation of PM Awas Yojana and the board would launch a PMAY demand survey soon for the residents belonging to the LIG and EWS on a no-profit-no-loss basis.
To be eligible for the scheme, the annual income of applicants belonging to EWS category should not be more than Rs. 3 lakh and for lower income group (LIG) category, the annual income should be in between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
The cost of a flat in the LIG category will be from Rs 10 to 15 lakh while it will be half the amount for the EWS category.
The modalities of the scheme are being worked out. The size of the flats and the final cost will be decided soon. But the cost will be within the reach of the intended groups of people.
From the past time, its being noticed by the government that the residents are demanding for affordable houses in the city.
The CHB is expecting a huge response to the scheme as it is coming at a time when owning house has become out of the reach for a majority of people due to high cost. The construction of these housing units to be made in G+4 type buildings.
