Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana: 10 Lakh Pucca Houses for Rural Poor

The Chief Minister of Orrisa has announced 10 lakh houses for rural poor under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. Keeping his eye on the next panchayat election in February next year the CM has announced this scheme for 10 lakh houses in rural areas.

According to the source, the CM claiming that the construction of 10 lakh houses in two year is a unique achievement in the entire country. The government is determined to set a milestone in the history of rural development by completing another 16 lakh pucca houses in next three years.

The announcement for houses to rural poor was made in the state level function. And further he said that the conversion of all Kutcha houses to pucca houses was one of the key agendas in BJD election manifesto in 2014. On the other hand, lambasting the State Government, the BJP said the Chief Minister is misleading the people by making false claims.

According to information, around 3,02,333 houses were constructed in last three years from 2013-14 to 2015-16 (Till December). This information was given by minister of State for Panchayati Raj Arun Sahu. Of total completed houses, 57,538 houses were constructed under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana which is a State sponsored scheme, while 2,44,795 houses were constructed under Indira Awas Yojana which is a Centrally funded scheme.

In the Earlier Assembly, the minister answered a question in written and mentioned that of total budgetary provision of 700 crore for 2015-16, the state government had released only 50 crore for Biju Pucca Ghar Scheme.
Meanwhile he added that the State Government is making a false claim to gain political mileage ahead of the panchayat elections. The ruling BJD is in the habit of appropriating Central schemes as its own, he also added.
