Assam Govt. Launch Arundhati Gold Scheme for Registered Newly Married Couples by 2019

The state government of Assam has announced to start Arundhati Gold Scheme for the registered newly married couples by January 2019. Under Arundhati Gold Scheme, an amount of 1 tola (10 gm) gold Rs.30 thousand will be given to the bride to purchase gold.

Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma  said in Guwahati that the state cabinet has approved the scheme. The Arundhati Gold Scheme will come tp effect from 1st January 2019.

The main objective of Arundhati Gold Scheme is to encourage couple to register their marriages and prevent child marriages. The minimum age for marriage of bride/girl must be 18 years at the time of marriage and groom/boy 21 year. The marriage registration gives the bride security and a ground to prove the marriage.

The Assam Minister further said that couples will have to provide their age certificates, which can be the HSLC pass certificate or admit card (SEBA or CBSE) to the sub-registrar of marriages. It is a part of our larger women empowerment policy. So that in Assam a correct marriage age (18 year and 21 years) can be establish and improve education of boys and girls.

Under the scheme, the bride/girl and her guardians (father, mother) annual income should be maximum Rs.5 lakh.The benefit under the scheme can be availed upon formal registration of marriages under the special marriage (Assam) Rules 1954.
