Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority or HMDA is the governing body of Andhra Pradesh Government. Formed in the year of 2008, the authority has the responsibility of planning the urban area of city of Hyderabad. It covers the area of the Greater Hyderabad Corporation and its sub urban regions. The HMDA covers the total area about 7,100 km square. This is the 2nd largest urban development area in the Country.
Following the main responsibilities of HMDA
- Authority is fully responsible for the planned development of the Hyderabad city. It plans, co-ordinate, supervise, promote and secure the sustainable infrastructure development in the city.
- To co-ordinate with various governing bodies and private agencies for the development of facilities like water treatment, sewage, transport and other basic infrastructure.
- Promoting the use of latest technologies in construction works according to the need of the city.
- To formulate and implement the projects for the housing infrastructure.
