The administration is in hurry to issue a Government Order (GO) for the projects before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls takes effect. According to the PWD sources, once the GO is issued, the construction on the flyovers can begin within the next 3 months.

The cost of construction for conventional flyover at Vyttila would be Rs. 90 Crores and for the clover leaf-shaped flyover in Kundanoor, it would be Rs. 120 Crores. NH wing of the Public Works Department will bear the cost of these two flyovers. While RBDCK is awaiting the government order to begin work on the Palarivattom flyover this month.

The two 2-lane flyovers at Kalamassery Junction and the meeting point of road from HMT and NH 47 have been put on hold due to the Kochi Metro Rail’s project. These flyovers to be integrated with the Kochi metro rail alignment.

The PDW is expecting the funding for the construction of flyovers from the Kerala Government’s Rs. 10,000 crore SPEED (Sustainable and Planned Effort to Ensure Development of Infrastructure) program which was announced almost a year before.

Bottlenecks in parts of Vytilla Junction would also be widened along with the flyover construction to ensure a smooth traffic, according to Superintending Engineer of PWD (NH wing) Rajiv P.C.

All the 5 flyovers of which 2 are still awaited to be constructed only on one side of the road at a time to ensure the traffic keeps running. These flyovers will pass parallel to the National Highway.

The flyovers will be constructed by the different companies so that they compete with each other to complete the projects on time.
