11,000 Applications received for Tirupati Housing Survey

11,000 applications has been received by Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT), in its door-to-door survey to identify eligible people for subsidy under beneficiary-led housing construction or increase scheme funded jointly by the Union and State Government. The combined team of revenue and MCT officials have completed about 30-35 percent of the survey, which will cove 69 slum area of the city.

According to the commissioner of MCT Mr. V. Vinaychand, earlier the end of September was set as a deadline for the survey but the period has been extended and now the survey would be completed in the second week of October.

The scheme for which the survey is taking place is aimed to provide affordable houses to the weaker section of the society. It facilitates construction of a new house with an option of incremental housing for the beneficiaries. The housing units under the scheme would be available at the cost of Rs. 4.2 lakh. Rs.1.5 lakh each would be contributed by the central and state governments and another Rs.70,000 can be taken as a loan by the beneficiary, who himself has to pitch in with Rs.50,000. The site/plot should be owned by the beneficiary.

Mr. Vinaychand further quoted that depending on the response, the scheme would be taken further to reach more beneficiaries. “Pending housing schemes at Damineedu, Avilala and Padipeta areas to build nearly 7000 houses would be completed soon. The contracts have been closed and tenders have been floated for the construction work”, he also added.
